Early Day Motions (EDMs) are short proposals that give you a chance to express an opinion, publicise a cause or support a position.
EDMs are submitted through the Table Office.
It’s rare for EDMs to be debated, but other MPs will have the chance to show their support for the proposal by signing the EDM. They can also submit amendments to it.
Your EDM, along with the names of the MPs who’ve signed it, will be published online in the EDMs database and you can get a hard copy from the Vote Office.
There’s a particular type of EDM (known as a ‘prayer’) that you can use to object to a negative statutory instrument (a type of delegated legislation).
