Written statements

The Government use written statements to inform MPs about issues for which they are responsible.

Typical subjects include:

  • the publication of a report
  • the launch or outcome of a consultation
  • details of the members, or terms of reference, of a group set up by the Government
  • the appointment of public officials chosen or approved by the Government
  • updates on projects
  • allocations of funding, such as a new grant or a response to an overseas aid emergency
