A number of rules ensure that a question is not a disguised statement or debating point, and that it is capable of receiving a meaningful answer.
Questions must:
- be comprehensible and should identify as clearly as possible the information or action sought
- be neutrally phrased
Questions must not:
- contain offensive language, argument or debate
- be trivial, hypothetical, or vague
- take the form of multiple choice questions, or a series of questions each dependent on the answer to the previous part
If you want to put forward information or argument for debate, an Early Day Motion or Adjournment debate or Westminster Hall debate may be a better choice.
