When the committee is hearing oral evidence from witnesses you should follow the same rules as in a select committee. For example, you may call other MPs by their names and need not stand to speak.
When the committee is examining the text of the bill, you should follow the same rules as in the Chamber. For example, you should stand to speak and refer to other MPs by their constituency.
For both types of meeting:
- food and drink (other than water) aren’t allowed
- you can use laptops (unlike in the Chamber) and other electronic devices so long as they don’t disturb others
- you can speak more than once in the same debate (unlike in the Chamber, when you usually can’t)
- speeches must be relevant to the part of the bill being debated
