How to vote if there is a problem with the pass readers

These steps are for you as an MP, rather than your staff.

Steps

  1. If there are any problems recording your name using the pass readers (for example, you do not think the pass reader has registered your pass), continue through the Lobby and walk past the Tellers. This will ensure that your vote is included in the Tellers’ count.
  2. Email the Public Bill Office (pbohoc@parliament.uk ) immediately to let them know that you do not think your name has registered. You also need to tell them which way you voted and make clear which division you are referring to. The email should come from your parliamentary account.
  3. You should not keep an Oyster or contactless card in the same lanyard as your parliamentary pass. If you have multiple passes or cards, you will need to take your parliamentary pass out of your lanyard to tap the pass reader. If the pass reader recognises any other card or pass, it will display “Error reading security pass” and your name will not be recorded.
  4. If you are aware that you don't have your pass, you should visit the Pass Office where you will be given a temporary pass which can be used on the pass readers. You will not be able to use your permanent pass on the pass readers until you have returned your day pass to the Pass Office.
